Both are fat-soluble. Taking fish oil with vitamin D3 may improve D3 absorption since fat-soluble vitamins are absorbed through the lymphatic system alongside dietary fats.
Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) are fat-soluble and are absorbed significantly better when taken with a meal containing fat. Taking on an empty stomach also increases the likelihood of fishy aftertaste or reflux.
High-dose omega-3 (>3g/day EPA+DHA) has antiplatelet effects and may potentiate the effect of anticoagulant medications. At typical supplement doses (1–2g/day) the effect is small. If taking warfarin or antiplatelet drugs, inform your doctor.
